The North Okanagan is rich with a diversity of performers, musicians, live theatre and performance venues. Nothing can replace the cultural value they bring to our lives and our community through live performance.
Until we can return to plays, concerts, and festivals, Isolate & Create would like to shine a virtual spotlight on some of the artists and performers that make the North Okanagan such a vibrant, diverse place.
Caravan Farm Theatre is a not-for-profit professional outdoor theatre company based on an 80 acre farm near Armstrong BC, on in the unceded territories of the Secwepemc and Syilx First Nations.
Hailed as a national treasure, Caravan Farm Theatre has been entertaining audiences young and old, from near and far, since 1978.The company began in the early 1970s as the Caravan Stage Company, an avant-garde horse-drawn touring company that brought experimental theatre productions to rural communities.
There is no theatre building - just the great outdoors. Productions have been staged in nearly every corner of the farm - in a field, in the pines, in the barn or the riding ring. The shows range from classics like Shakespeare and Brecht, to original works. In a usual year, annual productions include a Fall shadow play, a Winter one-act sleigh ride show, and in Summer, a full length musical.
All of these performances come alive with not only the performers, but with the energy and spirit of the audience gathered together outdoors to take part in the live theatre experience. We all look forward to when we can assemble together again to be part of the spectacular theatre experiences of Caravan Farm Theatre.
